DHEA Fights Muscle Loss – Sarcopenia

Past age 50 many men and women notice they just don’t have the muscle they use to. This gradual decline in muscle and bone mass as humans get older is known as “frailty” or “sarcopenia“. ” Sarcopenia is defined as a loss of muscle function with aging and is a major aspect of frailty. “Sarcopenia” is simply a medical term used to describe a condition of aging. Sagging skin on the back of the arms is a visible sign of muscle loss. Low muscle mass and function are associated with poor outcomes from acute illness such as fractures. As people get older the prevalence of bone fractures increases with age. In people over 65, more than half of the hip fracture patients have sarcopenia. These people tend to have lower DHEA levels. Physicians should more often identify and try to prevent sarcopenia from happening. This should be part of physicians’ routine evaluation for all older patients. (Pubmed source) Medical research has shown that high cortisol to low DHEA ratio is a significant risk factor for sarcopenia, muscle loss and loss of strength for people over age 65. Many women notice they gradually lose muscle tone in their arms and have lose skin on their upper arms where they once had muscle. The gradual loss of muscle is accompanied by loss of strength and increased frailty. Medical research has found that low hormone levels drive muscle loss. Less exercise and daily activity also contribute to the gradual loss of muscle mass and muscle strength. This gradual decline may also be accompanied by reduced bone density that can increase risks of bone fractures.

Levels of DHEA over human lifespan. During years of reproductive prime, between the ages of 18-27 men naturally produce levels of DHEA between 500-650 mg. Women during years of reproductive prime, between the ages of 18-27, produce naturally levels of between 450-600 mg.

Maintaining hormones by applying Twist 25 DHEA cream morning and evening every day after age 35 may help stave off muscle loss from reduced hormone levels. DHEA, dehydroepiandrosterone, counterbalances excess inflammatory response hormone, cortisol. DHEA is also a base for all estrogenic and androgenic hormones. As shown above, DHEA levels decrease by about 2% per year after age 25. So by age 35 people are producing 20% less than they did at age 25; and by age 50 only half as much DHEA. By age 60 people are likely to have less than 30% of the hormone base they used to. Maybe only 10% by age 75.

The association between DHEA and frailty, sarcopenia and cogmitive decline is remarkable and evident. Shrinking muscle mass and reduced bone strength ensues. DHEA levels decrease with age. So it’s important for people over age 35 to use a DHEA supplement to maintain healthy hormones. It is a favorite among weight lifters, bodybuilders and athletes. As with any supplement, different people notice different subtle benefits. The key is using DHEA the right way, as an absorbable skin cream called Twist 25. To support the development of lean muscle mass and fight muscle loss try integrating a pump or two of Twist 25 DHEA cream into your daily routine. The most important thing to remember: Is that DHEA must be use as a properly made bioidentical DHEA cream – not as an oral supplement. Oral DHEA supplements are mostly eliminated by the liver before they can do any good, and only increase the level of DHEA sulfate – not free DHEA. Free DHEA is what the body uses as a base for the sex hormones. All DHEA is not the same. Supplement your body’s natural DHEA by using the best DHEA supplement available. DHEA supplements work best as a specially made absorbable skin cream that is rubbed into thin hairless skin, where the body processes DHEA naturally anyway. It is alsoimportant to make sure the DHEA cream you use is bioidentical, pharmaceutical grade DHEA. Workout smarter not harder with DHEA the right way. Do your body a favor in every way every day. Maintain your best health. Use Twist 25 DHEA cream – Make your own hormones.
