Is DHEA Safe? Safe Truth About DHEA

DHEA Facts: Safe Truths about DHEA

What is DHEA and is it safe?

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a prohormone naturally produced and metabolized in the body by the adrenal glands, ovaries or testes and the skin. Is DHEA safe? Yes. There are no dangerous side-effects from supplementing DHEA.

DHEA:

  • DHEA is a pro-hormone; a foundation or precursor molecule to more than 50 hormones and counterbalances the inflammatory response hormone, cortisol.
  • Plays an important role in maintaining normal physiological and psychological health functions such as cardiovascular health cognition and memory.
  • Reduces the potential for the diseases of aging, loss of muscle and bone as we age, as well as maintaining cardiovascular function and the immune system.
  • DHEA reduces inflammation by counterbalancing the stress hormone, cortisol.
  • DHEA encourages healing, and supports muscle recovery, cartilage, collagen and bone strength
  • DHEA has these beneficial health effects with no dangerous side effects.

Twist 25 DHEA cream is an absorbable DHEA supplement cream for people 35 and up to help maintain healthy DHEA levels.

DHEA levels over the Human Lifespan

DHEA is the most abundant hormone precursor in the human body. Humans naturally produce DHEA at an increasing rate from birth through youth into adulthood. DHEA levels peak between ages 20 to 25 when men and women are in their reproductive prime; then DHEA levels decrease at a rate of about 2% per year.

During years of reproductive prime (men between the ages of 18-29) produce levels of 500-650 mg. Women during their reproductive prime (women aged 18-29) produce levels 450-600 mg. The graph shown below is a visual depiction of DHEA levels over the human lifespan. Regular daily use of Twist 25 DHEA cream is intended to help maintain DHEA levels as we age.

The goal is to slow the gradual decline of DHEA levels after age 25 as we get older with daily use of Twist 25 DHEA supplement cream to help maintain better DHEA levels.

Benefits and Safety of DHEA

There are no dangerous side-effects from supplementing DHEA. DHEA helps to build lean, shapely muscle, improves deep REM sleep, allows for improved energy and sense of well-being, and sharpens cognitive function. DHEA also helps enhance libido. Many people 35 and up describe “a sense of well-being” or “focus” is regained.

Meanwhile, DHEA also improves mental sharpness and cardiovascular health. DHEA reduces risks of cancer of all types by boosting the immune system. DHEA also counterbalances the inflammatory effects of cortisol. Dehydroepiandrosterone is a prohormone, and as a result, it is a base precursor to testosterone, estrogen and other hormones.

The Truth about DHEA and Aging

DHEA is not the “Fountain of Youth.” DHEA will not make you younger, nor stop time. However, DHEA may help maintain health and mental function. DHEA may help you lead a happier, healthier life.

Using Twist 25 DHEA cream is about living a better quality of life. Live your best life. Clinical studies suggest DHEA reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, cancer and diabetes. DHEA has also been shown to improve mental sharpness, strengthen the immune system, increase bone density, improve sleep, increase sex drive and improve overall mood.

Can supplementing DHEA make me younger?

No. But taking DHEA can help reduce some of the negative effects of aging and reduce the risks of many diseases of aging. Maintaining good health is much better than trying to regain good health once it is lost.

As mentioned, humans produce more and more DHEA from birth through puberty and into adulthood. DHEA production peaks around age 25, when we are in our reproductive prime. Then, after age 25, our natural DHEA levels decrease at a rate of about 2% per year. By age 35, our bodies produce 20% less DHEA than when we were 25; and by age 50, our bodies produce only about half as much DHEA as when we were in our prime.

Is DHEA Safe to Take?

Yes. DHEA is the most abundant naturally occurring prohormone in the human body. DHEA has not been shown to increase the risk of cancer. In fact, research suggests that DHEA may reduce the risks of all types of cancer and strengthen the immune system.

Does DHEA help with Weight Loss?

Medical research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) suggests that “DHEA induced significant decreases in both visceral fat (that’s the kind inside the abdomen) and subcutaneous fat (that’s the pad just beneath the skin) in men and women.”*

Researchers believe that DHEA may improve insulin sensitivity, which helps the body burn glucose rather than store the energy as fat. DHEA also boosts energy and sense of well-being. Increased energy levels and a better overall sense of well-being combine with an improved positive mindset to make it easier for people to exercise, reduce abdominal fat and lead a more active lifestyle.

Is DHEA an Anabolic Steroid?

No. DHEA is not an anabolic steroid. While it is a banned substance for professional athletes, it does not have any of the health risks associated with synthetic anabolic steroids. DHEA does, however, function similarly to steroids, and can help you naturally increase your lean muscle mass. Unlike anabolic steroids, DHEA has no dangerous side effects.

Studies show that DHEA helps with muscle recovery after workouts and helps develop lean shapely muscle. To learn more about how DHEA can improve your workout results, check out the article on DHEA and exercise.

Does DHEA Cause Insomnia?

No. Medical research suggests that DHEA actually improves the quality of sleep by improving deep REM sleep. To learn more about how DHEA improves sleep, check out this article.

Does DHEA Actually Improve Cognitive Function?

Yes. Studies suggest that DHEA helps neuronal cells regenerate, which boosts cognitive function and overall memory. If you would like to learn more about how DHEA improves mental sharpness, check out our cognitive function blog.

Can DHEA Counterbalance Negative Effects of the Stress Hormone Cortisol?

Yes! DHEA is actually the only hormone the body naturally produces to counterbalance the adverse effects of cortisol. Cortisol is often referred to as “the stress hormone.” Cortisol is released by the body as a protective inflammatory response, but chronically elevated levels of cortisol driven by chronic stress can have a negative effect on health and appearance as we age.

Cortisol is responsible for lower energy levels, feeling tired and bloated, increased body fat and the breakdown of muscle. While DHEA levels gradually decrease as we get older, cortisol levels gradually increase. For optimum health, it is recommended that DHEA-to-cortisol levels be maintained at a ratio of 10:1

How to use DHEA?

The skin, or dermis, is the largest organ of the human body and is where a lot of DHEA processing actually occurs naturally in the body anyway for men and women alike. In fact, medical research shows that for postmenopausal women, more than 80% of hormones are metabolized in the skin.

Daily recommended doses of DHEA for people 35 and up range from 25mg to 150mg per day, depending on age and sex. The older you get, the more you need. Males have higher DHEA levels than women. DHEA supplements are nothing new, but to actually feel and notice the many potential benefits of DHEA, they must be used correctly.

The key is to provide the body with DHEA in the right way — as a bioidentical skin cream — so that the DHEA can be absorbed and processed in the skin rather than the gut. When DHEA is taken as a pill, most DHEA is destroyed by the liver; this means that only DHEA sulfate (DHEA-S) levels increase, not free DHEA. Free DHEA is what the body processes into sexual hormones.

Twist 25 DHEA cream is a pharmaceutical-grade bioidentical DHEA cream developed and tested to be safe, effective and available over the counter, and it is absorbed and processed in the skin, not through the gut, where the DHEA would be eliminated by the first-pass effect of the liver.

Side effects and Precautions

DHEA is the most abundant naturally occurring produced precursor for hormones in the human body. As such we all have and use it in our bodies every day all the time anyway. It is not a foreign substance. DHEA has no dangerous side effects.  It is not addictive or habit forming. By using it as a cream you will not make less of your own. If one decides to stop using a DHEA supplement, you go right back to the DHEA levels you would have. DHEA can icrease sexual interest and drive, DHEA allows deep restful sleep. DHEA is a base precursor for sebum and collagen formation. So DHEA on the skin yields improved skin hydration. DHEA protects skin cells from chemical and UV carcinogens. So, DHEA is safe.

How to Buy DHEA?

Use an absorbable DHEA skin cream supplement, not a pill. DHEA cream is a pharmaceutical-grade bioidentical DHEA cream that is tested to ensure safety, quality and strength. Be sure the DHEA supplement is bioidentical DHEA cream because this is exactly the same as what your body makes and uses.

Twist 25 DHEA cream has been perfected and tested for 25 years to ensure the best quality DHEA supplement cream. Add Twist 25 DHEA cream to your routine each day and feel the benefits. You will notice the benefits within a few weeks.

This product is the REAL DEAL! I’m so thankful to have found this product!🙌

Female, Age 56, Mont Vernon, New Hampshire

“I have been using DHEA cream for 4 years and believe it has had an impact on the overall condition of my body at this age. I work out 4 times per week now. No one in the gym can believe I just turned 55 (she laughs). I have less than 10% body fat, and my muscles are defined. See (laughing)… and this guy at the gym told me I have the body of a 30-year-old.”(deep smile)
– Female, Age 56

“I have been using Twist 25 for 4 years. I feel great. I have more energy, and my skin is softer. I feel fit and trim and don’t have to work out as much as I used to to stay in shape. I recover faster after my workouts and benefit more. I have more energy, and I’m leaner. It’s amazing. I love it!”
– Female, Designer and Fashion Model, Age 49

“I’m 72 years old and have been taking DHEA for eleven years. My wife’s been using DHEA for 18 years. We don’t take it for any major effect. It’s lots of subtle effects, not dramatic… DHEA is basic. The question is not whether we are going to live longer with DHEA supplementation. The question is: Will we live in a youthful state from day to day? DHEA helps us maintain a higher quality of life.”
